I began playing basketball for fun in my in the street with the neighbor kids a few years ago, but was never good. We eventually moved another hoop so that we could play full court. This is when my interest began to heighten. I played during the summer but didn't think anything off it.
Once I got to college, I began to play with some of my friends. When the opportunity came to join and intramural team, I jumped all over it. It was the first time ever I was on a real basketball team. Last night (Monday 1/25/10) was our first game. With 9 people on the team we decided to split the halves and have two groups. I was in the second group. Once it was my groups turn to play, I got excited and nervous.
We began with the ball and pressed down the court. I was standing right in front of the free-throw line, pretty much oblivious to any plays going on. Lucky, I got passed the ball. I turned, and shot. The basket was good. My first ever points in a real basketball game.
The game went on, and we continued to loss the close game we had build. By half-time, I was out of breath and ready for a break. I got back in the game in the end of the second half and had a few rebounds, no points and a foul. Even though I wasn't a Lebron or Kobe player or even close, I just had fun. It was fun to play on a team, with a real score board and refs. A few of my friends even came out to watch, which was cool.
In the end, we lost (by a lot), but I though it was a good first game. Hopefully I made Coach Kyle proud.
