I decided to run that 1/2 marathon less than 12 hours before the start. I was with one of my friends who was prepping for the marathon and all of his excitement made me want to run. I called up Jack (can't run alone) and asked if he wanted to run it. He was thrilled and we had 12 hours to prep for the race.
I called another one of my friends and got his bib that he wasn't going to use. I made one more call to get my RA duty covered for the night. I hit the sack around 11:45 and woke up at 6. I was felling good in the morning and getting really excited.
We lined up around 6:45 and waited for the start. It was a very sunny day. Not a cloud in the sky. The first mile was really slow, 9:00, because of the huge amount of people. There were about 8,000 people running in the race. The second mile was a little better, but still at 8 minutes. The third was just under 8 also. I was feeling pretty good and really wanted to push myself. The fourth mile was 7:45 and from there we turned it on. The 5th and 6th miles were both just over 7 minutes. I was still feeling good and kept pushing on the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th miles were all at 7:05, 7:13, 7:09, 7:00.
At this point I wanted 'boost' and finish strong. The final three miles went by fast. The 11th mile was at 6:45. I was really starting to feel it. The next mile was 6:37. One to go. The final mile was 6.34 making my total time 1 hour and 36 minutes.
I was really happy to finish with a good time. Running today made me realized how blessed I really am. I have the strength and the health to do it without much training. I love to be outdoors and be active. No one to thank more than God.
I had a great time running, happy with the result and always enjoy a great sunny day in His kingdom.
